Fin

Today I went to post something:

Invalid login

Eh? No, that's always been my password. Maybe the forgotten password link...

No such author...

Fucking hell, you're kidding me. Something ate my login?

So that's it. In years past, I would have loved tinkering with stuff to make it work differently, but these days I just don't have the time. I want stuff that works and I don't want to have to deal with it breaking. I've been toying around with the idea of shutting Over Queersville down the last few months for a few different reasons, but looks like Movable Type or my web hosting made that decision for me. If it's the latter, they haven't posted an announcement about having perl problems or whatever.

How funny that I discover this the day after I got my WordPress.com invite. I'm shifting gears and have something up over at jaschu.wordpress.com. It's something akin to an old-school weblog. (I say that now, ha ha ha, but whatever.) It's all Running Tally except I'm not a year out of college and my writing (and possibly attitude) has improved. Go keep track of me over there, folks.

I'm supposed to thank you for the fish at this point, I think.

Victor Borge comment t-shirt idea, v.1

Victor Borge comment t-shirt idea, v.1

The text colors seem slightly off and illegible over Victor's head, so it's not ready for prime time. Also I'm a little worried about what Cafepress would do to it, and silkscreening or other places would limit the amount of colors I could use. Comments and constructive criticism welcome.

Two years westward

Two years ago today, I crossed the Bay Bridge with a car full of stuff, calling Casey on my cell phone saying, "Okay, so how do I get to your place again?" and he was all "Why, where are you now?" and I was all "Crossing the Bay Bridge," and he was all "Woot!"

I'm still here. I survived, even thrived... eventually. Recently, I was afraid my vacation to New York would have me falling in love with another city and whisking me away again, but, uh, no. I'm staying put.

Otherwise, lately I've been busy. "Hella busy," as they say here. More soon, but perhaps not really soon.

While I was gone, I was gone

I just realized that this is the second time I've been in DC for their Pride weekend, and this is the second time I've missed it. Fucking hell. Thing is, I only go to DC to visit family (that would be my dad and stepmom, not... you know, family), and they don't keep track of such dates. Gah. Ah well.

This past week I got a new webdev coworker in my business unit, and it reminded me of my first full-time week at Yahoo!, which was a lot like cram school in Japan: a ton of reading, a ton of stuff to remember, and you will eventually be tested. This time around, though, I was the cram school teacher, and had to come up with a syllabus, making sure that I imparted information in the right order so that it made logical, coherent sense. I realize that there's the stuff you have to know to be a great webdev, and there's the stuff you have to know just to do your job. I never stopped to think of how much of the latter there was. Thank goodness she's a fast learner and a voracious reader... especially since we've only had the last week to get her trained, and this week I'm gonesville. It'll be good, though.

NYC coming up in two days, staying there for five or six. If there's any NYC readers who I'm not aware of who I haven't written to announcing my arrival, you need to holla and school me. I'm just oblivious, not rude.

I also helped her set it up

Heather, my favorite local lesbian, has started a weblog. Hooboy. Her band and my band better play a show together, that's all I'm sayin'. Anyway, Heather's ridiculously funny, so go read.

Rocking the nerd house

True conversations with MJ from one night last week:

(calling MJ on the phone)
"Hey you."
"Hey, beh-beh!"
"I'm coming down right now."
"You knew I was going to ask you to move your car? My roommate is prescient! Psychic!"
"No, it's just the only reason why you'd be calling me this time of day."
"Oh."

(after cars are rearranged)
"My lovely, psychic roommate!"
"Aren't I the ninja roommate?"
"You're multi-classed."
"Wait, isn't it true that in RPGs, when you're multi-classed, you raise levels slower than other characters because you have to split your XP between classes?"
"Well... I think under the new D&D rules, you gain levels as fast as anyone else, it's just at each level increment, you decide which class goes up a level."
"Ah, gotcha...... I love that we can speak the same language and have these conversations."

iTunes to support podcasting

iTunes will soon have support for downloading podcasts. Cheers. Now it'll be easier to listen to that blue-haired kid on the way to work.

Eastwards

Happiness is vacation time locked down for June, plane and train tickets squared away, and people notified. The only problem is that I've been anticipating this vacation for months now, so now that I have it sorted out, I've already mentally checked out when I still have a month's worth of work ahead of me. Ach.

I'm heading to DC and NYC. I'll happily take suggestions of things to see. Meanwhile, I have to practice not looking like a tourist in New York...

Pentagon

Overheard last night at a friend's art showing:

I had a meeting at the Pentagon and as you travel inward, you have to keep going through security checkpoints. So I get through the first, and then the second.... and the third, and the fourth. I was trying to play it off really cool, like I have meetings at the Pentagon all the time, but when I got through the fourth, suddenly there was a Dunkin Donuts and a CVS. I blurted out, 'What?! Dunkin Donuts?!' which ruined any chances I had at cred...

No, really, had a good time in Napa. It's not the destination, it's the company along the way. In this case, a ton of company.

But mostly I talk in sarcasms

Okay, I took that American English dialect quiz. 75% general American English, 15% Yankee, 10% Upper-Midwestern. Somehow I escaped general Midwestern.

Although much of what I say is often just goofy.

A request

I'm stuck at home with a burgeoning cold instead of being at MJ's birthday shindig. I went there with the intention of staying for a little bit and not touching anyone so as to not spread germs, and maybe get some dinner, but her caterer didn't listen when she said, "We want some vegetarian food." The one possible vegetarian dish had mushrooms in it and I'm allergic. Unable to eat and feeling worse once I got there than I did when I left home, I turned around and went back. Now I'm just fucking pouting. It's ridiculous.

So on that note, a request to whatever or whomever I put these requests to: April is almost up, and I am sick of being in pain, both physical and emotional. This cough sucks, people need to stop dying, I need to stop missing work and when I am at work, it needs to stop being as frustrating as it has been here and there. I attended one fun party and had one really nice thing happen this month, and in regards to the latter, it better not sour. I better be well enough to enjoy May and the kickass stuff that's shaping up. My plans to vacation on the east coast in June better not get fucked up. If I'm not well, and if those plans get fucked up, I am coming to find your ass and I am taking over your job because you're sucking rocks here. Be ye a spirit, I'm gonna take the ancient Chinese route, and fire you and name someone else to the position. 100 fucking demerits, asshole. Watch it.

.....That was terribly pathetic, but I feel better.

Something happier that I've forgotten to post: while in Chicago I was on the Feast of Fools podcast produced by my comrades-in-arms Fausto and Marc, and last week I was the Bay Blogger for SFist's Bay Blogger Thursday. Check it and check it.
